Introducing the Nicole Sandoval Community

We are overjoyed to share that Sabin CDC’s newest five‑story, 78‑home development at 5025 NE 8th Ave will carry the name of Nicole Sandoval—a visionary artist, devoted mother, former Sabin resident, Board Chair, literacy champion, and beloved children’s entertainer. For decades, Nicole has filled neighborhood parks, libraries, and the PDX Storybook Garden with laughter, turning everyday moments into celebrations of culture, identity, and joy.

“As Nikki Brown Clown, she does more than entertain—she empowers. Her performances are love letters to Black children, showing them that their stories matter, their voices deserve to be heard, and their futures are limitless,” said Mary Schoen‑Clark, Executive Director of Sabin CDC. Through teaching, storytelling, and dance, Nikki sparked a movement for early literacy, ensuring every child could see themselves reflected in the books they held and the characters they adored.

Nicole leads with boundless love—organizing book drives, hosting reading circles, and inspiring murals that now stand as vibrant testaments to her impact. She reminded us that representation isn’t just meaningful; it’s life‑changing. It builds confidence, strengthens communities, and affirms belonging. This is the heart of the Sabin Way: honoring the people who shape our neighborhoods and ensuring their legacies remain rooted right where they began.

And so we name this building for her—because her leadership, creativity, and joy have shaped generations, and because this community deserves a home that reflects its brilliance.
